Marketing is almost foreign to Lawyers. There are several practices both online and offline which makes it difficult to know where to start. You can always hope to be referred, but word of mouth can only take you so far. It is true that not all lawyers have a bad case of marketing, so when it comes to marketing strategy, what are the things successful lawyers are doing differently? In any given situations, we find this boil down to few things. If you really want to grow your practice, you’ll be required to implement a more detailed strategy to attract clients.

Create a Unique Website

One of the first marketing steps for any lawyer is to set up a website. The site should be able to communicate what you do to your (potential) clients; this means it must clearly state your niche and specialty.  The website should load quickly, be professional, have a user-friendly interface, and excellent contents.

If you offer different services within your niche, outline them very clearly. You can also design your website to provide helpful resources to potential clients; this could be something like a free Ebook. These will draw more people to your site, and they can become your clients at some point.

Consider Creating a Social Media Presence

Social media has been known to be a powerful marketing tool for all kinds of businesses. You can start using social media to build up networks using your referral and client lists or the contacts within your community. You can then use all these sites to provide valuable information on your practice. 

You can also use social media as a medium to find experts and resources. From there you can hire experts to interview for your newsletter, employ a freelancer for guest posts, or other people you can work with. You can also follow the people in the same industry as you, and you can connect with them.

Create Useful and Relevant Content

Clients are known to be attracted to content they care about and find to be useful to their current situation. That means you need to provide meaningful, helpful materials that relate to their problems and not just the services you provide. For instance, if you’re a litigator, you can write about how to avoid litigation that people will find interesting, and as an estate planning lawyer, you can write about the stage of life people are in just before they require your service.
